The Story of Bartending Bootcamp
Born behind the bar, built for anyone who wants to understand drinks.
Bartending Bootcamp began as a way to organize the cocktail and spirits knowledge people kept asking for: recipes, bottles, techniques, stories, and the practical details that make drinks make sense.
How it began
A simple idea from a working bartender.
Steven Calabro started bartending in 1987. At first, it was the work itself that drew him in: meeting people from everywhere, hearing their stories, making something well, and handing it across the bar.
Over time, the questions kept coming. How do I make this cocktail? Which bourbon should I buy? Is the story behind this drink actually true? What makes one spirit different from another?
Bartending Bootcamp was created in 1994 to answer those questions in one place. It began as a way to catalog what Steven had learned from years behind the bar, from tastings, from other professionals, and from the guests who wanted to understand what they were drinking.
Since then, Steven has trained hundreds of bartenders, hosted tasting events and seminars, worked across five countries, and consulted for major spirits brands. Bartending Bootcamp grew out of that same work: real questions, real rooms, and a lifelong habit of turning experience into usable knowledge.
A true student of the industry, he created Bartending Bootcamp, The Spirits Guide, and Masters of Mixology to turn decades of study into knowledge bartenders and enthusiasts can actually use, in the language real bartenders speak.
What it became
A living guide to cocktails, spirits, and real bar language.
Today, Bartending Bootcamp is a visual learning library for cocktails, spirits, technique, history, flavor, service, and the stories behind the glass.
It is built for new bartenders, cocktail enthusiasts, home-bar builders, beverage teams, and anyone serious about mixing better drinks. The goal is not to bury people in facts. The goal is to make useful knowledge stick.
The flashcards, guides, and lessons are designed to help you understand why drinks work, how spirits are categorized, what details matter, and how to talk about it in the language real bartenders speak.
Glad you're here.
If you want to understand what is in the glass, why it works, and how to talk about it with more confidence, Bartending Bootcamp was built for you.
